The Environmental Impact of Shark Overfishing
Some things people need to realize are that
sharks are one of the most important species of marine life in our oceans. They
control the populations of other species of marine life that would run rampant
without sharks; like seals, sea lions and many other large fish species. In turn, these species
numbers would explode without the presence of sharks. As a result, these species would eat, and subsequently wipe out, most of the
populations of the world's baitfish species (the fish caught and sold at most of the world’s fish markets)
and run them into extinction; throwing off the balance of life in the marine
ecosystems [Top-down Ecology].
